NFL Draft Projections 2011: Ryan Bartholomew, Rob Long Have Positive Showings At Syracuse Football Pro Day

The Syracuse football Pro Day attracted 20-plus NFL coaches and scouts, who witnessed 16 former SU football players lift weights, run the 40-yard dash and perform drills Wednesday at Manley Field House. Four of those 16 player were ones who had already participated in the NFL Combine, April 24-March 1, in Indianapolis - center Ryan Bartholomew, running back DeLone Carter, inside linebacker Derrell Smith and outside linebacker Doug Hogue.

Bartholomew, a 6-foot-2, 298-pound redshirt senior, impressed scouts at the Combine by bench pressing the most 225-pound reps (34) of any lineman. Currently, the National Football Post has him ranked as the 12th best center on their big board.

"I think I am doing a pretty good job so far," Bartholomew said after the Pro Day. "I mean, my goal wasn't to go out (to the Combine) and put up those numbers just to show I was a good football player."

"(Today) my goal was just to show that I got better at some things I did at the Combine. I tried to demonstrate that I could play both guard and center. I mean, that's key in the (NFL) because you can only have some many guys on the team. It helps that I have that experience at both positions."

Meanwhile, Smith, who said he felt a bit nervous Wednesday night, thought being a part of the Combine and the Pro Day was a blessing:

"I thought I was in shape until I got out here today. I am going to have to go back to the field and get some sprints in," said Smith after his Pro Day workout. "You got to do a lot more mental preparation for the test they're going to put you through. But the preparation, as far as, going as hard as you can is the same."

The National Football Post has Smith as the 15th-best middle linebacker on its Big Board.

Also participating in drill was senior punter Rob Long, who just underwent six weeks of chemotherapy and radiation treatment for a brain tumor, which was found in December.

"Above all, though," wrote Matt Park, the voice of the Orange, in his blog Thursday. "It was great to see all-Big East punter, Rob Long grinning ear-to-ear.

"'It’s one of those things you work for all of college, and the day has finally come," Long said. "After everything, it feels great to be back. I feel healthy." Long referred to his kicking as "a work in progress" as he nears regaining his regular season form.'"
