Syracuse Football Pro Day: Doug Houge, DeLone Carter, Ryan Bartholomew Try To Impress NFL Scouts

The Syracuse football program's Pro Day for NFL scouts, coaches and general managers will be held Wednesday afternoon at Syracuse University's Manley Field House.  Center Ryan Bartholomew, running back DeLone Carter, inside linebacker Derrell Smith and outside linebacker Doug Hogue, who each participated in the NFL Scoring Combine, Feb. 24-March 1, will be four of the 18 participants in the showcase.

There will be a lot of pressure on these players to perform well, especially with scouts seeing them in a more intimate setting, which is much different than the Combine's 300-plus player setting.
"Right now is our chance. It’s like do or die, all or nothing," said All-Big East linebacker Hogue. "A lot of guys have got butterflies in their stomachs. We’ve played in front of thousands of people, but in this room with a couple of scouts and it’s that fresh feeling again."

Hogue showed good speed at the Combine, running a 4.63 40-yard dash and could be a late-round pick.

Also at the Combine, Bartholomew did 34 reps of the 225-pound bench press, ran a 4.97 40-yard dash and improved his draft status with an impressive work. Carter, the MVP in both the 2010 Pinstripe Bowl and the East-West Shrine Game, is likely considered a mid-round pick in the draft at this point, but that could change with a solid work out Wednesday.

Others notable SU players participating are: Defensive tackle Bud Tribbey and punter Rob Long. Long is trying to battle back from six weeks of chemotherapy and radiation treatment for a brain tumor, which was found in December. Long, who was unable to play in the Pinstripe Bowl, has been working out since February and will more than likely get his shot at the NFL as an undrafted free agent.

-- Later on in the day, SB Nation New York will update fans on how well the SU players did.
