Rutgers Pro Day: Joe Lefeged, Brandon Bing Impress

Joe Lefeged and Brandon Bing are the two former Rutgers University players who have the best chances of finding themselves in an NFL training camp later this year — if, of course, there are training camps. Both players appeared to help themselves Wednesday during the Rutgers Pro Day.

Lefeged, a safety and kick returner, appears to be a probably mid- to late-round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft.. He did the three-cone drill and positional drills during the Pro Day.

“I don’t really hear too much right now (feedback-wise from scouts),” said Lefeged, who is expected to get a look sometime after the third round in next month’s NFL Draft. “You can only worry about what you can control. Keep working hard, show a positive attitude, and that’s all I’m trying to do.”

Rutgers coach Greg Schiano thinks Lefeged can be an ‘in the box’ safety in the NFL.

“I think he can definitely be an effective player in that league,” head coach Greg Schiano said. “The thing that always impressed me was as he became the starting safety as a sophomore, we kept putting him down as a nickel back because he’s such a good blitzer and such a good underneath player. That’s valuable.”

Bing, a 5-foot-11, 181-pound cornerback, has been looked at as a player whose best shot would likely be an an undrafted free agent. After running a 4.33 40-yard dash Wednesday he appears to have intrigued at least some of the NFL scouts in attendance. The Star-Ledger reported that at least two teams invited him for private workouts after the Pro Day.
