For 35 seasons, Syracuse University men's basketball assistant coach Bernie Fine has sat alongside friend and co-worker, head coach Jim Boeheim, at Orange games. That will no longer be the case, as Fine was terminated of his duties Sunday night.
"At the direction of Chancellor Cantor, Bernie Fine’s employment with Syracuse University has been terminated, effective immediately," said Kevin C. Quinn, who's the Senior Vice President for Public Affairs.
The dismissal was made after new information about Fine's alleged molestation of two former ball boys -- Bobby Davis and Mike Lang -- came forth Sunday morning. The information was a 2002 secret recording Davis made of a conversation between himself and Fine's wife, Laurie, who admitted in the tape that Fine had issues and that possibly one day those issues would come back and haunt him.
As of 8:01 p.m. ET, Fine's coaching profile is still on the SUAthletics.com website.
A statement by Boeheim is expected to come soemtime Sunday night, however, so far, nothing has been released.
