Syracuse starting safety Phillip Thomas has been suspended for an undisclosed violation, according to reports.
The Syracuse Orange football team still needs one win to garner bowl eligiblity. That win might be tougher to come by now that starting free safety Phillip Thomas has reportedly been suspended from the team.
The Syracuse Post Standard cited a source saying Thomas had been suspended, putting the safety in jeopardy of missing Syracuse's final two regular season games. The Score 1260 also reported the suspension for an undisclosed violation, but did not know how long the suspension would last.
Thomas has been Syracuse's most productive defensive player, leading the Orange in tackles (82) and topping the entire Big East Conference with six interceptions.
After stunning West Virginia 49-23 to move to 5-2, Syracuse has lost three straight games and is now in serious danger of missing a bowl game. The Orange need to beat either Cincinnati at home or Pittsburgh on the road to become bowl eligible.
