+1
Fresh off a stunning 19-14 upset of West Virginia on the road Syracuse University is the top team in the Big East, according to pollsters.
In the national picture, that does not mean a whole lot since the Orangemen (5-2 overall, 2-1 in the Big East) are outside the Top 25, but that is a pretty big accomplishment for Syracuse. The upstate New York school has not won the Big East since 2004, which is also the last time Syracuse went to a bowl game.
Syracuse received a total of eight points in the AP poll. Technically, Syracuse is tied with West Virginia (5-2, 1-1) in the AP poll. The loss to Syracuse knocked the Mountaineers (20th last week) out of the Top 25. They also received a total of eight points from voters.
SBNation.com has the roundup of all of this week's various polls. No Big East team cracked the Top 25 in any of them.
Oregon, Boise State and Auburn are ranked first, second and third in both the AP and USA Today polls. Missouri moved 18th in the AP poll to 7th after defeating Oklahoma, which dropped from No. 3 to No. 10. The Sooners had been ranked No. 1 in the BCS, which has not been released yet for this week.
