A pair of field goals by kicker Ross Krautman has helped the Syracuse Orange earn a 6-3 lead over the Connecticut Huskies in a Big East Conference football game at the Carrier Dome. The game has reached the end of the first quarter.
Syracuse running back Jerome Smith has been the most productive player in the game. Smith has rushed for 57 yards on seven carries, 49 of those yards came on SU's first offensive drive that was capped with a 22-yard field goal by Krautman.
The Orange's second drive of the game started at the UConn 21-yard line thanks to a 33-yard punt return by sophomore Ritchy Desir. SU was unable to take advantage of the field position and settled for a 33-yard field goal three plays later.
UConn kicker Chad Christen made a 32-yard field goal with 1:05 left. The kick capped a nice 14-play, 69-yard drive that mostly came through the air.
UConn will begin the second quarter with the ball at its own 29-yard line.
