St. John's upset UConn to win the 2011 Big East men's soccer championship.

The Red Storm have done it again. St. John's won its conference-record ninth Big East men's soccer championship on Sunday beating UConn in overtime on Sunday afternoon at Red Bull Arena.

Junior midfielder Jack Bennett, winner of the tournament's Most Outstanding Player award, lifted St. John's to a 1-0 win when he scored a breakaway goal in the seventh minute of overtime to break a scoreless tie. The win gives the Red Storm an automatic bid into the NCAA men's soccer tournament. Pairings for that will be announced Monday afternoon.

It was an upset win for St. John’s, ranked No. 21/21 (NSCAA/Soccer America). UConn is ranked No. 4/3 in the country.

OK, and this note from the Big East is just wild:

Bennett has scored five game-winning goals and given out five game-winning assists; he has been involved in the game-winning goal 10 times in 14 wins for St. John's.
