Brandon Jones was named the Big East's Special Teams Player of the Week.
Rutgers University senior cornerback Brandon Jones was named the Big East's Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in the Scarlet Knights' dominating 26-0 win against Howard University.
Jones returned a six-yard fumble for a touchdown that originated off a blocked punt by teammate Miles Shuler. It was the second time in as many weeks that the senior had registered a touchdown as he scored on an interception against Tulane during the team's win a week prior. He is the first Rutgers defensive player to post two touchdowns in a single season since Quintero Frierson accomplished the feat in 2006.
In addition to Jones, junior linebacker Jamal Merrell was named to the Big East's weekly honor roll after an impressive showing against Howard. Merrell finished the game with career-highs in tackles (14) and tackles for a loss (3.5), which helped propel the team to a shutout victory.
