Rutgers Football Recruiting 2012: Commits Staying Committed

Despite having their head coach leave for the NFL six days before National Signing Day and losing out on quarterback prospect Devin Fuller Sunday, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football program has done a solid job of keep the Class of 2012 verbal commitments, well, committed to Rutgers.

"The response from the recruiting class is just tremendous," interim head coach Kyle Flood said Saturday.

"As of now, everyone who committed to us from the beginning is still committed to us. And we intend on keeping it that way."

On Sunday, two recruits, offensive linemen Ryan Brodie (4-star) and wide receiver Leonte Carroo three-star), confirmed their verbal commitments to The Star-Ledger. Last week, Brodie (6-foot-5, 260-pounds) made his decision to attend Rutgers, while Carroo also had a verbal commitment but wavered a bit after Greg Schiano left to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Meanwhile, 3-star defensive tackle Julian Pinnix-Odrick, who has also verbally committed to Rutgers, visited Syracuse University this weekend and is now SU 'heavy' says Scout.com's John Garcia Jr.

Now, Rutgers may not lose any more recruits but it may not gain any either, as 5-star defense end Darius Hamilton is still wavering between Rutgers, the Florida Gators and Miami Hurricanes.

As of Monday, Scout.com had the Scarlet Knights incoming recruiting class ranked No. 45, which could go up if Hamilton decides to come to Piscataway, N.J.

Currently, Athletic Director Tim Pernetti is interviewing coaching candidates to replace Schiano, as Flood, offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti, Florida International head coach Mario Cristobal are all finalists for the job. On Sunday, Temple head coach Steve Addazio, who was a strong candidate, is reportedly staying where he is.
