Greg Schiano Of Rutgers Target For Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coaching Job

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL might be looking to fill their head-coaching vacancy with a candidate located in Piscataway, N.J. According to NFL Network's insider Jason La Canfora, Rutgers Scarlet Knights head football coach Greg Schiano is under consideration for the Bucs' job. Schiano along with former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Sherman and Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski are also possible targets to fill the vacancy, reports La Canfora.

It was about two weeks ago, that SI.com's Peter King said that Schiano would be a great canidate for an NFL head coaching job, citing that he has close ties with New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

"Bill has tremendous regard for Greg Schiano and I think he believes that Schiano will be an excellent NFL coach someday," said King in a radio interview with The Dan Patrick Show, Jan. 12.

Despite the rumors of Schiano making the leap to the NFL, the Rutgers headman did make it clear to The Star-Ledger, Jan. 14, that he has no intention of joining the professional football rankings.

"Of course, if Schiano changes his mind about that," writes Pro Football Talk's Michael David, "he would hardly be the first coach to do so. And owners who are willing to offer $6 million a year can be good about changing coaches’ minds."

The Bucs are currently the only NFL team with out a head coach.
