Senior guard Jeremy Hazell has netted eight points, while teammate junior guard Jordan Theodore has added team-best 11 points off the bench for the Seton Hall Pirates, who lead the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at halftime, 34-27, in a Big East Conference rivalry game at the Louis Brown Athletic Center in Piscataway, NJ. The Pirates (10-14, 4-8 Big East) trailed 11-5 early in the first half, but responded with a 8-0 run to take a 13-11 lead with 10:49 remaining. SHU, which lost to Rutgers (13-11, 4-8) earlier in the season, led by as much as eight points, 29-21, with 5:10 to go.
Freshman forward Gilvydas Biruta has a game-best 13points for Rutgers, who 9-of-25 (36 percent) from the field and 2-of-7 from 3-point land. Senior guard James Beattly added six points, while senior forward Jonathan Mitchell as just two points.
SHU finished the half 14-of-29 (48.3) and 5-of-13 from behind the 3-point arc. The Pirates have outrebounded the Scarlet Knights, 15-10. Rutgers has committed 10 turnovers, while SHU has just seven.
