Greg Schiano to Penn State? Rutgers Coach Says No

The Penn State Nittany Lions could be interested in hiring Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano. But that doesn't mean the interest would be mutual.

Schiano told Bill King of 24/7 Sports Radio that he is not interested in leaving Rutgers, even if Penn State came knocking on his door.

"I'm only interested in one job and that's the one I have right now," Schiano said.

Schiano has coached at Rutgers since 2001, and currently has the Scarlet Knights at 7-3 and fighting for the Big East title.

It's natural that Penn State would have interest in acquiring Schiano's services as they search for Joe Paterno's replacement in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal. In 1990, Schiano began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Nittany Lions. He then spent five years as Penn State's defensive backs coach, serving under defensive coordinator Sandusky and head coach Paterno.

Since leaving Penn State, Schiano has turned Rutgers into a Big East contender despite the school's relatively weak football history.
