Rutgers Vs. Cincinnati: Scarlet Knights Defeat Bearcats, 20-3

In their biggest game of the season the SRutgers carlet Knights dominated the Big East-leading Cincinnati Bearcats en route to a convincing 20-3 victory Saturday afternoon at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway, N.J. With the win Rutgers is now one win away from clinching a share of the Big East title, at the very least. The win moves Rutgers to 8-3 on the season and 4-2 in the Big East, half a game up on the West Virginia Mountaineers in both columns.

Rutgers out-gained the Bearcats 385 yards to 225, had the ball for 38+ minutes, more than doubled Cincy's first down output and did not commit a turnover, while forcing two. Outside of a failed conversion on a first-and-goal situation and nine penalties for 70 yards, the Scarlet Knights pitched a near-perfect game on Senior Day. They entered the day as three-point underdogs.

The star of the day was running back Jawan Jamison, who rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries. He wore the Bearcat defense down with countless broken tackles and tough runs.

Rutgers plays at UConn next week to finish their season. A victory clinches a share of the Big East title.

Rutgers Vs. Cincinnati: Scarlet Knights Up 17-3 After Three

After three quarters of play the Scarlet Knights have dominated the Bearcats in every way imaginable in the two teams' battle for a stop atop the Big East.

Rutgers has doubled up Cincinnati's time of possession, – 30 minutes to 15 – have accumulated 18 more first downs and out-gained them 329 to 84. Unfortunately penalties – seven for 55 – and the inability to score a touchdown from the one yard line to cap a 10 minute, 23 play drive account for Rutgers only being up two touchdowns despite utter dominance for 45 minutes.

Quarterback, Chas Dodd has completed 17 of 30 passes for 166 yards, but the star of the game has been freshman tailback, Jawan Jamison, who has carried the ball 24 times for 170 and two touchdowns. His ability to break tackles and keep his legs churning after contact has not only allowed Rutgers to control the clock, but has completely worn down the defense of the Bearcats.

The fourth quarter of the game can be found on ESPN U.

Rutgers Vs. Cincinnati: Scarlet Knights Up 10-3 At Halftime

In the biggest game of the season for Rutgers, the Scarlet Knights have put together quite the first half against Big East leaders, the Cincinnati Bearcats, who came into today with a one game lead on Rutgers in the conference. Both teams have seven wins on the season, along with three conference victories, but the Bearcats have one less loss in both columns.

As three-point underdogs on Senior day, Rutgers holds a 10-3 lead going into the locker room. Both the highlight and lowlight for the Scarlet Knights was a 23-play, 82 yard drive in the second quarter that ate up nearly 10 minutes of game clock. Unfortunately, Rutgers could not punch it in from the one on first and goal, and had to settle for a field goal.

The Scarlet Knights have dominated the time of possession 20 minutes to 10, and the total yards tally, 200 to 50, yet still only lead by a touchdown. Rutgers have hurt themselves with penalties, committing six for 40 yards in the first half.

The second half of the game can be found on ESPN U. The Bearcats will receive the ball to start the third quarter.

Rutgers Vs. Cincinnati: Scarlet Knights Up 7-3 After One

The Big East title is still within reach for the Scarlet Knights, but in order to have any chance of capturing the crown, they must defeat the Cincinnati Bearcats today, who have a half game lead on Rutgers in the standings. So far so good for the Scarlet Knights. An early turnover forced by their defense gave them a short field, and their offense capitalized by scoring a touchdown on a Jawan Jamsion run. The Jamison touchdown run put Rutgers up 7-0, but the Bearcats have answered with a field goal, cutting the lead to four. Rutgers lead 7-3 after a quarter.

Quarterback Chase Doddhas completed four of eight passes for 37 yards. The aformentioned Jamison has 30 rushing yards on five carries and a touchdown. Mohamed Sanu has been held to one catch for only two yards.

The remainder of the game can be found on ESPN U.

Greg Schiano to Penn State? Rutgers Coach Says No

The Penn State Nittany Lions could be interested in hiring Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano. But that doesn't mean the interest would be mutual.

Schiano told Bill King of 24/7 Sports Radio that he is not interested in leaving Rutgers, even if Penn State came knocking on his door.

"I'm only interested in one job and that's the one I have right now," Schiano said.

Schiano has coached at Rutgers since 2001, and currently has the Scarlet Knights at 7-3 and fighting for the Big East title.

It's natural that Penn State would have interest in acquiring Schiano's services as they search for Joe Paterno's replacement in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal. In 1990, Schiano began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Nittany Lions. He then spent five years as Penn State's defensive backs coach, serving under defensive coordinator Sandusky and head coach Paterno.

Since leaving Penn State, Schiano has turned Rutgers into a Big East contender despite the school's relatively weak football history.
