Report: Kyle Flood Hires Offensive Coordinator And Running Back Coach From Boston College

According to reports from College Football Talk's Ben Kercheval, new Rutgers Scarlet Knights football head coach Kyle Flood is pursuing two new coaches for his staff, both of whom would be coming from Boston College if they accept the job. The first is BC tight ends coach and interm offensive coordinator Dave Brock, who, if the reports are correct, would be taking over the Rutgers offensive coordinator position.

The Newark Star-Ledger writes that Rutgers is looking at acting Boston College offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Dave Brock to replace Cignetti. Brock, as you may recall, took over the OC job for Boston College when Kevin Rogers took a leave of absence for health reasons last year. Brock was previously the OC for Kansas State where he coach Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman and Green Bay receiver Jordy Nelson.

The other coach from Boston College that has been linked to a possible job at Rutgers is running backs coach Ben Sirmans, who would be leaving BC to take the same job with Rutgers.

According to the report, the Scarlet Knights have also been linked to Ron Spence, who would serve as the team's quarterback coach.

Additionally, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that Bethune-Cookman offensive coordinator Ron Spence will join Rutgers as the new quarterbacks coach.

If these reports are true, Brock, Sirmans and Spence would join Dave Cohen, the new linebackers coach, and Damian Wroblewski, the new offensive line coach, on the new Rutgers coaching staff.

Syracuse Football Coach 'Glad' Greg Schiano Is Gone

It has been just over a week since former Rutgers football head coach Greg Schiano left Piscataway, NJ for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and rumor has it Syracuse football and other Big East coaches are not mourning the loss.

"He was a pain," Syracuse offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett told the Tampa Bay Times Saturday. "I'm glad he's gone and I don't have to deal with that anymore."

Of course, Hackett wasn't talking about Schiano's personality but his constant defensive-blitzing schemes that helped Rutgers defeat the Orange six times in his 11 season.

"(Rutgers blitzes) safeties, cornerbacks, linebackers, you name it," Hackett said. "(Schiano) has been around the league enough to know that if you pressure the quarterback, you have a chance to win. And I bet he'll ramp it up even more with more time to work with players in the NFL."

Other Big East coaches, like Connecticut Huskies defensive coordinator Don Brown, talked about the way Schiano ran Rutger's offense and how it might translate to the NFL.

According to the Times article, Schiano still needs to hire coaches on offense and defense, but if one thing is clear Syracuse coaches probably believe he will be successful at the next level. And they probably are secretly hoping that he is because it would be bad to see him four years from now taking a head coaching job with the Boston College Eagles.

Kyle Flood Officially Introduced As Rutgers Football Coach

Rutgers officially introduced Kyle Flood as its new head football coach today. Flood, who had been an assistant at Rutgers for seven season, reportedly received a five-year contract.

The Rutgers football program has been going through a very tumultuous time since former head coach Greg Schiano left for the NFL last Thursday. On Monday, former Scarlet Knights, now New England Patriots corner back, Devin McCourty addressed the departure of Schiano and the future of the program.

"It is kind of bittersweet," said McCourty, who was a part of the famous recruiting Class of 2005 and was selected 27th overall by the Patriots in the '09 NFL Draft. "He is a big part of my development as a player, and as a person. But, you have to be happy for him. I don't know any coach in that profession that doesn't dream about being a head coach at the highest level of football. To get that opportunity, I think that's great for him.

"But, as a proud alum, seeing him go after the job he has done there at Rutgers. People said we were probably one of the worst programs in college football and then to build it up to what it is today. But, I am sure they will find a replacement and he will do a good job too."

Rutgers Football Coaching Search: Kyle Flood Reportedly Will Be New Head Coach

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have found a new head coach, according to a report (via NJ.com). The school turned to interim head coach Kyle Flood today after a deal could not be reached with FIU head coach Mario Cristobal.

Flood has coached the offensive line at Rutgers since 2005 but was promoted to interim head coach after Greg Schiano left to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL.

The Rutgers Board of Governors has a conference call scheduled for noon Tuesday, according to a person informed of the university's intentions, at which time Flood is expected to be approved as the new coach.

This will be Flood's first head coaching job. The certainty of having a coach who was on Schiano's staff lead the way appears to have already made a positive impact on recruiting. Two prized linemen told Scout.com that they will sign with Rutgers after hearing about the Flood hire (via Sam Hellman's Twitter).

Rutgers Football Coaching Search: Mario Cristobal Will Be Staying At FIU, According To Report

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights coaching search will apparently continue. A report earlier today stated that Rutgers was in negotiations with Florida International head coach Mario Cristobal to replace Greg Schiano, who left to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Now, Pete Thamel of the New York Times is saying that Cristobal will not be the Rutgers coach.

Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti thought it was "doable" to have a new head coach in place by college football's national signing day (Feb. 1) which would allow the Scarlet Knights to try and salvage the impressive recruiting class Schiano had put together before his departure.

Thamel also indicated that Rutgers might turn next to interim head coach Kyle Flood and former Rutgers assistant John McNulty, who now coaches for the Arizona Cardinals (via Twitter).

Rutgers Football Will Hire Mario Cristobal To Be Next Head Coach, According To Report

Mario Cristobal will become the next head coach of Rutgers football, the New Jersey Press Media reports and the Star-Ledger's Steve Politi confirmed via Twitter. Cristobal, Florida International University's head coach since 2007, reportedly met with Rutgers Athletic Director Tim Pernetti Sunday and is currently in negotiations for a contract. Cristobal beat out current Rutgers interim head coach Kyle Flood, who interviewed for the job Saturday.

Cristobal, 41, was an assistant coach ('01-03) under former head coach Greg Schiano, who left Rutgers last Thursday to become the head coach for the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

For the past five seasons, Cristobal has tried to rebuild a FIU program that went 0-12 before he got there and did an excellent job. After going 1-11 in his first year, Cristobal led the Golden Panthers to back-to-back bowl bids, including a victory in the Little Caesars Bowl in 2010.

Now, the question is, will Rutgers retain Flood, who last season served as the offensive line coach and assistant head coach, and the rest of the Scarlet Knights coaching staff that has helped bring in a recruiting class currently ranked No. 45 by Scout.com?

The coaching staff also includes offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti, who was also in the running for the head coaching job.

Rutgers Football Coaching Search: Temple Coach Steve Addazio Reportedly Not Leaving Owls

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights interviewed interim head coach Kyle Flood for the full time job Saturday. Flood is among the reported finalists to replace Greg Schiano for the job. Today it appears that one of the finalists, Temple Owls head coach Steve Addazio, is out of the running.

Addazio is reportedly staying at Temple.

"He's not going to Rutgers," said one source with inside knowledge. (via Philly.com)

Multiple sources have reported that the initial list of finalists consisted of Addazio, Flood, Rutgers offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti, FIU head coach Mario Cristobal and New York Giants offensive line coach Pat Flaherty.

Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti said that having a new head coach in place by college football's national signing day (Feb. 1) was "doable."
