New York Giants Injury Report: Michael Coe Needs Season-Ending Shoulder Surgery

One day after falling to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night, the New York Giants suffered another loss Monday. Cornerback Michael Coe needs season-ending surgery on his shoulder, and the team will place him on injured reserve.

Coach Tom Coughlin said Jimmy Kennedy will be placed back on the 53-man roster. Kennedy recently ended a four-game suspension after testing positive for performance-enhancing substances.

Coughlin also noted that tackle Will Beatty was sent to have his back examined. Beatty played against the Philadelphia Eagles, but experienced discomfort during the week of practices leading up to the game.

Tight end Jake Ballard is not expected to miss any time after suffering an elbow injury, but defensive back Derrick Martin has a small tear of his hamstring.

D.J. Ware also left Sunday's game with a concussion. There has been no update today on the running back's condition, however.

The Giants lost to Philadelphia 17-10 on Sunday night, leaving Coughlin to steam about his team's performance.

"As I just said to each one of the players, first start off with yourself and look at yourself in the mirror. Ask yourself. Because my question for them was ‘why?' What does it take to understand what the Eagles were going to be like coming here? You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that the team is 3-6 with their backs to the wall, they are going to play their butts off. To get to where we wanted to go, we had to play better and harder and we didn't," Coughlin said.

Giants Sound Angry, But Their Words Are Empty

The New York Giants seem angry today in the wake of their disturbing 17-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday night, a loss that may have already torpedoed the 6-4 Giants' playoff hopes.

"We got punched in the mouth and didn't do anything about it," said defensive tackle Chris Canty.

The Giants were angered by their performance, and by the fact that they did not respond when quarterback Eli Manning was brutally slammed to the turf on an un-penalized late hit after he threw an interception.

"I think our response, or lack thereof, was embarrassing," said Canty.

"You don't take (stuff) from anybody. And last night, I felt like we took a little bit," said safety Antrel Rolle. "In order for us to go where we want to go, things are definitely going to have to change."

Problem is, all of this talk comes too late to do the Giants any good. They have now lost three games against teams with losing records, and have a difficult, perilous road ahead to try and make the playoffs. They need to stop talking and start performing.

Giants' Coach Tom Coughlin Rips Into Players

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin did not hold back when it came to ripping his players Sunday night. After watching the Giants' dreadful performance in a critical 17-10 loss at home to the Philadelphia Eagles, who could blame him?

Among Coughlin's most biting remarks:

- "We have no first downs to show, we have no yardage to show, we have no rushing yardage with 29 yards, which is about as pathetic as it can get."

- "I am very disappointed because coming out of San Francisco the talk was -- by the players -- we will fight, we will fight, we will play hard and we will do all those things. I didn't see that. I saw the penalties. I saw the skirmishes, the things that become a thing of discipline and the things that take away your focus from the game."

- "I didn't like the way we played. ... It was a very poor performance."

- "We got physically handled."

Eagles 17, Giants 10: Vince Young Leads Philadelphia Past New York

The New York Giants lost a game to the Philadelphia Eagles, 17-10, Sunday night. In the process the Giants 6-4 also lost their lead in the NFC East. The Giants are now tied with the Dallas Cowboys, who rallied past the Washington Redskins Sunday afternoon.

The Giants and Cowboys meet twice in the final four weeks of the regular season.

Sunday night was a bit of role reversal for the Giants and the 4-6 Eagles. Philadelphia has blown five fourth-quarter leads this season, while the Giants have four come-from-behind victories in the fourth quarter. This time, though, it was the Eagles who made the plays.

Inept offensively for much of the game the Giants finally tied the game at 10-10 when Eli Manning hit Victor Cruz for a 24-yard touchdown with 11:44 remaining.

The Eagles then went on an 18-play, 80-yard drive that took 8:51 and ended with quarterback Vince Young throwing a game-winning eight-yard touchdown pass to Riley Cooper with 2:50 left to play. Young, subbing for the injured Michael Vick, had an uneven game. He was 23-of-36 for 258 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions

After the Eagles touchdown, the Giants drove the ball to Philadelphia’s 21-yard line, but Manning fumbled when sacked by Jason Babin and Derek Landri recovered to seal the game for the Eagles.

Manning completed 18-of-35 passes for 264 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The Giants ran the ball for only 29 yards on 17 carries.

Giants Vs. Eagles Score Update: New York Ties Game In Fourth Quarter

The New York Giants didn't do much on offense in the third quarter of their Sunday night showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles, and they were trailing 10-3 entering the fourth quarter because of it. Then Eli Manning made that lead disappear in moments.

Manning, harassed by the Eagles' defense all night, found Hakeem Nicks while scrambling for one bomb to get the Giants into Eagles territory, then found Victor Cruz while on the move for the Giants' first touchdown of the night. Lawrence Tynes' extra point tied the score at 10-10.

That drive made up for a lackluster third quarter, in which the best thing the Giants did in the quarter get a defensive stop. That came from Aaron Ross, who intercepted Vince Young in the red zone to end a Philadelphia drive.

Ross has now completed an unusual triple crown in 2011. He has interceptions of every Eagles quarterback: Young tonight and Michael Vick and Mike Kafka earlier in the season.

ANIMATED: D.J. Ware Sustains Concussion On Cullen Jenkins Hit, Out For Game With Injury

"Keep your head on a swivel, kid!" So says every football coach to every undersized football player in every cliche-ridden football movie ever made. The Giants' D.J. Ware clearly was not in and has not seen those movies, given the way he just got hit by Philadelphia's Cullen Jenkins.

Ware stayed down for a few moments, and suffered a concussion on the play, according to NBC. Jenkins' helmet appears to make contact with the facemask of Ware's helmet, but because Ware was a runner, he was not considered a defenseless player on the play, which set the Giants up for a Lawrence Tynes field goal. Jenkins was not penalized for the hit.

Without Ware, the Giants will have to rely on Brandon Jacobs and Da'Rel Scott as their running backs. Ahmad Bradshaw is also out for tonight's game.

Giants Vs. Eagles Halftime Score: New York Trails, 10-3

The New York Giants spent most of their first half struggling on offense. But after the Eagles opened up a double-digit lead, Eli Manning led a late drive that made the halftime score 10-3.

Lawrence Tynes made a 48-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter to close Philadelphia's lead to one possession.

Manning found D.J. Ware on a checkdown to set up the field goal; Ware was crushed by Eagles defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins at the end of his catch-and-run, and may have sustained a concussion.

Manning has just seven completions on 18 passes; that's fewer than Vince Young, who is making his first start of the season for the Eagles. But the Giants are doing more through the air than on the ground, where Brandon Jacobs, Da'Rel Scott, and Ware have combined for 19 yards on 10 carries.

DeSean Jackson Injury: Eagles Speedster Heads To Locker Room, Returns To Game

The New York Giants were already facing a diminished Philadelphia Eagles team in their Sunday night match-up, but the Eagles briefly lost speedster DeSean Jackson, too.

Jackson left the field and headed to the locker room after a catch that set the Eagles up in Giants territory and led to an Alex Henery field goal. But while NBC's Michele Tafoya reported that Jackson was taken to the locker room for further examination of his right knee, and that his return was questionable, he returned after missing a series, with Al Michaels telling the NBC audience that Jackson had been evaluated for a concussion.

Evidently, Jackson was cleared in that evaluation. His first play back — a 50-yard catch to get the Eagles to midfield from their own 2 that was immediately nullified by a Jackson penalty for taunting — didn't exactly serve as evidence for Jackson's health. It was the sort of thing that DeSean Jackson would do, concussion or no.
