Yankees Vs. Mariners Final Score: New York Wins, 6-2

The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners, 6-2, on Sunday at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees took two games out of the three-game set.

Jesus Montero gave the Mariners a lead in the first inning with an RBI single. Mark Teixeira tied the game up in the first inning on an RBI on an infield single. Curtis Granderson reached on a throwing error in the second inning which allowed Chris Stewart to score. Derek Jeter scored Stewart in the fourth inning on an RBI single which gave the Yankees a 3-1 lead. Another Montero RBI single cut one run off the Yankees' lead. New York's designated hitter, Raul Ibanez, put the game out of reach. He drove in the other three runs for the Yankees with a solo homer in fifth inning and a two-RBI single in the sixth inning.

Freddy Garcia (5-5, 5.00 ERA) got the start for the Yankees and went five innings in the win, giving up five hits, four walks and two earned runs while striking out two batters. Hisashi Iwakuma (2-3, 4.20 ERA) also went five innings in the loss for Seattle. He gave up seven hits, three earned runs and two walks. Josh Kinney gave up the other two earned runs for Seattle in 1/3 of an inning of work.

The Yankees (63-44) will start their next series on Aug. 6 against the Detroit Tigers (57-50) at Comerica Park.
