The Yankees got to Josh Beckett early, loading the bases in the first after Derek Jeter and Curtis Granderson reached on singles and Alex Rodriguez was hit by a pitch. Robinson Cano walked to score a run, Mark Teixeira singled to knock in two runs, and Nick Swisher and Eric Chavez picked up an RBI each with sacrifice flies. That left it 5-0 after the top of the first, but the Red Sox answered right back with five runs of their own, making it 5-5 after one. Both teams added another run in the second, and Boston added another in the fifth to take a 7-6 lead.
The seventh inning would prove to be decisive. Boston used three pitchers, but that wasn't enough to stop the Yankees from scoring four runs. Teixeira picked up two more RBI on a triple, Raul Ibanez scored him with a double, and Chavez scored Ibanez with a single. That proved to be all it took, as all Boston would get in the remaining innings was a solo home run from Cody Ross. Boone Logan gets the win for New York, improving to 4-0. Rafael Soriano got the final four outs to earn his 20th save.
The Yankees improve to 50-32 with the win. The teams play a day-night doubleheader on Saturday..
