Yankees Vs. Athletics Final Score: New York Loses 2-1, Suffers Third Straight Defeat

The New York Yankees lost their third straight game to the Oakland Athletics on Saturday night, falling by a final score of 2-1.

The third game in the four-game series proved to be a pitcher's duel between New York's Phil Hughes and Oakland's Jarrod Parker. The two starters gave up a combined nine hits and three earned runs. Hughes went 7.2 innings, throwing 117 pitches and striking out six. He was given the loss, dropping his record to 9-8 on the season.

Both teams were scoreless through three innings before each knocked in a run in the fourth. The Yankees struck first in the top of the inning on an RBI single by left fielder Raul Ibanez, his 41st RBI of the season. Oakland tied things up after a home run by left fielder Yoenis Cespedes.

The score remained at 1-1 until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Oakland's Brandon Inge connected on another solo homer to make the score 2-1. Third baseman Alex Rodriguez started the ninth inning off with a single and stole second after a Mark Teixeira strikeout, but pinch hitter Andruw Jones struck out to end the game.

New York's record fell to 57-37 with the loss, while Oakland improved to 50-44. The final game of the series will be played Sunday at 4:05 p.m. Eastern Time.
