Chad Qualls Traded To Yankees: New York Acquires Veteran Reliever From Phillies

The New York Yankees made a move Sunday to improve their pitching depth, as they acquired veteran reliever Chad Qualls from the Philadelphia Phillies for either cash or a player to be named later. The news was first reported by New York Post writer Mark Hale.

Qualls, 33, is a former closer for the Arizona Diamondbacks and served as a setup man for Phillies' closer Jonathan Papelbon. The nine-year veteran spent last season with the San Diego Padres where he finished the season with a 3.35 ERA and a 6-8 record.

There's speculation that Qualls will replace Cory Wade in the Yankees bullpen, which has needed to carry a heavy load as New York's starting rotation has been beaten up by the injury bug.
