NEW YORK - OCTOBER 20: Starting pitcher CC Sabathia #52 of the New York Yankees adjusts his cap as he talks with catcher Jorge Posada #20 after Sabathia gave up a single to Jeff Francoeur #21 of the Texas Rangers to load the bases in the top of the sixth inning of Game Five of the ALCS during the 2010 MLB Playoffs at Yankee Stadium on October 20 2010 in the Bronx borough of New York City. CC Sabathia has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained groin, the New York Yankees announced on Wednesday. He isn't expected to return to the club until after the All-Star break.

The New York Yankees have placed starting pitcher CC Sabathia on the 15-day disabled list with a Grade 1 left groin strain, the team announced on Wednesday.

Sabathia is expected to miss two starts and return to the team following the All-Star break. This is his first DL assignment since joining the Yankees, and he didn't agree to it without protest.

"I know what he wants to do, but this is what we're going to do," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. "He's a competitor, he wants to be out there, he feels like he can pitch with it right now. But we're not going to mess with it."

An MRI taken on Tuesday revealed a strain in Sabathia's adductor muscle, which he suffered during the fourth inning of his last start Friday against the Chicago White Sox. He mentioned the issue to Yankees trainers after feeling discomfort during a bullpen session on Tuesday.
