Yankee 8, Royals 3: A-Rod, Andy Pettitte Too Much For Kansas City

Alex Rodriguez homered twice on Wednesday night, and he was not the only elder statesman with something to show. Andy Pettitte continued his welcome back tour with a seven-inning gem, as the Yankees topped the Kansas City Royals by a final score of 8-3.

A-Rod went yard in the bottom of the first inning, a two-run shot that followed Curtis Granderson's round tripper to start the inning. He sent his second over center with a 421-foot blast.

Pettitte picked up his second win in two games. This was only the 39-year-old left-hander's third start back in the majors. He struck out eight batters and allowed two runs to go with seven hits and one walk. This was the second straight game in which Pettitte struck out at least eight batters this season.

Royals starter Will Smith was making his major league debut on Wednesday night. He lasted three and a third innings, allowing five earned runs, including both of A-Rod's homers. Billy Butler hit his ninth home run of the season for the Royals.

The win makes it two of three for the Yankees over the Royals. They get a travel day tomorrow before opening a weekend series in Oakland
