Monday's 2-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles featured New York Yankees veteran pitcher Hiroki Kuroda putting together his second consecutive solid start. On Tuesday, Yankee starter Phil Hughes (1-3, 7.88 ERA) will try to put together just his first solid start of the season as he opposes the Orioles' Brian Matusz (0-3, 5.66 ERA).

In four starts this season, Hughes has failed to last longer than six innings, including in his last start, against the Texas Rangers last Wednesday, which lasted 2 2/3-innings and featured four runs. Hughes lone win of the season came against the Minnesota Twins, April 19, when he pitched 5 1/3-innings and allowed two runs.

Meanwhile, the Orioles (14-9) are trying to hang onto second place in the American League East Division, which features the Tampa Bay Rays (15-8) in first place and the Yankees (13-9) in third.
