The Yankees will host Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers in a weekend series starting Friday.
The New York Yankees will host the Detroit Tigers for a three game series this weekend, beginning Friday night, with the tough task of facing reigning AL MVP and Cy Young, Justin Verlander. Ivan Nova will oppose Verlander.
Probable Pitchers
Ivan Nova (3-0) vs. Justin Verlander (2-1), Friday
Freddy Garcia (0-1) vs. Drew Smyly (0-0), Saturday
C.C. Sabathia (2-0) vs. Max Scherzer (1-2), Sunday
The Yankees limp into the series, having lost two consecutive games to the Texas Rangers. But not to be out-limped are the Detroit Tigers, who have lost four straight and six of their last seven games. Their only win in their last seven – Justin Verlander's last start. The AL Cy Young will look to stop the bleeding Friday in Yankee Stadium.
New York trails both Baltimore and Tampa Bay by 1.5 games for the lead in the AL East. The Tigers are tied with the White Sox and Indians for first place in the AL Central.
