Tigers vs. Yankees, 2012 ALCS Game 1 Score Update: New York, Detroit Still Scoreless

Despite loading the bases twice in the first two innings, the Yankees are still tied 0-0 with the Tigers after the first three innings.

The Yankees threatened early, loading the bases against Doug Fister in the bottom of the first inning. Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira and Raul Ibanez all worked walks against the right-hander, bringing Alex Rodriguez to the plate. Rodriguez swung at the first pitch, pulling a sharp grounder, but Jhonny Peralta made a diving stop to his right before getting the force-out at second.

New York loaded the bases in the second inning as well, despite Fister getting the first two hitters to record outs. Russell Martin, Jeter, and Ichiro Suzuki all hit two-out singles. Suzuki's collected an infield hit, so Martin could not advance home. This proved to be costly, when Robinson Cano followed Jeter with a line drive right back at Fister. The ball ricocheted off the pitcher and bounced towards Peralta, who made his second run-saving play of the game. The Tigers' shortstop caught the ball with his bare-hand off the bounce, then threw a strike to Prince Fielder at first, barely beating Cano to the bag.

Fister returned to mound to start the third inning after taking a line drive off his wrist. Teixeira led off the inning with a single, but Ibanez popped out before Rodriguez grounded into a double play.

Andy Pettitte has tossed three strong innings, only allowing two singles while striking out three Tigers.
