Red Bulls 2, Earthquakes 2: New York Settles For Tie With San Jose

Stay connected for news and updates

Saturday's MLS match between the New York Red Bulls and San Jose Earthquakes, with the league's three leading scorers all on the field, promised to be a wild affair. The game, played at New York's Red Bull Arena, did not disappoint. Kenny Cooper (New York) and Chris Wondolowski (San Jose) each scored goals and Thierry Henry of the Red Bulls provided an assist as the teams played to a 2-2 draw.

The draw ended the Red Bulls winning streak at three games, and gives them a 3-2-1 record. The Earthquakes are 4-1-1.

All of the scoring came in the first half. Only five minutes into the match Henry took a throw in and slipped through the defense to Cooper for a 1-0 New York lead.

The Quakes evened the score at the 15-minute mark on a goal by Rafael Baca.

New York reclaimed the lead eight minutes later when Dax McCarty scored his first-ever goal as a Red Bull. He whistled home a low shot off a nice feed from Dane Richards on the right wing.

Wondolowski tied the match in the 35th minute, assisted by Shea Salinas.

Salinas left the match late in the first half with a broken collarbone suffered when Rafa Marquez of New York fell on him.

The Red Bulls next match will be April 22 when they go on the road to face Eastern Conference rival D.C. United.
