The New York Red Bulls made the playoffs this past season but they wanted far more results out of their spending. It appears as if the club isn't afraid to spend more money this offseason to work toward capturing an as of yet elusive MLS title.
Red Bulls GM Erik Solér announced via conference call on Tuesday that the club will be seeking out a third Designated Player "from one of the bigger leagues" in European soccer (via MLS Soccer.com).
"We want someone with high quality on the ball who likes to move the ball around but has the ability to score on their own," Solér said in a conference call on Tuesday. "We had a very good record with wide midfielders, we did very well, but we're trying to add to that as well. It will be someone who has a record of scoring goals and setting other people up.''
Solér also made it clear during the call that Tim Ream will not be going on loan (via MLS Soccer.com) to West Brom or anywhere else. Just in case anyone wondered about Thierry Henry possibly going on loan, Solér also squelched that idea by saying:
"We have no plans of loaning any players anywhere. Thierry's working out at Arsenal to stay fit. We're happy that he's doing so, but he's coming back."
