Rangers Vs. Flyers, NHL Winter Classic 2012: Rink Building Continues At Citizens Bank Park

The 2012 Winter Classic between the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers on Jan. 2 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia presents a particular set of difficulties in the construction of the rink. In comparison with other baseball stadiums used in past Winter Classics, Citizens Bank Park is lower from street level and not as close to a street.

In order to make the venue work, the NHL has sent a refrigeration truck to the stadium (via NHL.com) that will need to have an unusual piping route to the rink:

Piping from the truck will run out of the truck into the stadium through a window, according to Dan Rosen of NHL.com, and then it will travel 450 feet across the center field concourse and down a long Erector set-looking channel to field level.

If you want to watch the rink build live, visit the live stream at the Winter Classic website.
