Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 shots Saturday to earn his second shutout of the season and help the New York Rangers blank its Atlantic Division rival the Philadelphia Flyers, 2-0, at Madison Square Garden. Brad Richards netted the game-winner in the second period, while Carl Hagelin added a third-period insurance goal for the Rangers, who improve to 12-5-3 overall (27 points). The Fylers drop to 13-7-3 (29 points).
Richards' eight goal of the season came on a power play that began at the end of the first period when Philly's Andrej Meszaros was called for elbowing of Brandon Dubinsky. Then, just 54 seconds into the second period, a Richards' slap shot found the back of the net. Dan Girardi and Michael Del Zotto earned assists on the goal.
New York added some insurance in the third when Hagelin netted his first career goal just 5:06 into the third period. Ryan McDonagh and John Mitchell both tallied assists on the score.
