Mets Vs. Nationals: Gio Gonzalez Dominates As Washington Wins, 5-1

Stay connected for news and updates

The Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets Monday night, 5-1, led by a slew of home runs from the Washington offense.

The Nationals began their home-run barrage in the third inning with longballs from Kurt Suzuki and Ryan Zimmerman, and they continued in the fourth inning with a two-run home run from Ian Desmond. Mets pitcher Collin McHugh lasted only four innings before being pulled

Other than a solo home run off the bat of Scott Hairston, the Mets were helpless against Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez. Gonzalez allowed one run on three hits in six innings of work, and the bullpen continued dominating New York for the last three innings, holding the Mets to only two baserunners.

Gio Gonzalez picks up the win, improving his record to 19-7. Collin McHugh gets the loss and now stands at 0-2.
