Ike Davis smacked two home runs Sunday including a walk-off in the bottom of the ninth to help the New York Mets edge the Houston Astros, 2-1, in a thrilling series' finale at Citi Field. The victory helped New York earn its first series victory in the month of August.
Davis, who also homered in the bottom of the fourth inning, hit a high fly to right field off Astros' reliever Wilton Lopez that just cleared the wall and gave the Mets their second straight victory.
The game-winning hit came after a tough top half of the ninth, which featured rookie Mets pitcher Jeremy Hefner spoiling his own complete-game shutout by giving up a game-tying double to the Astros' Marwin Gonzalez.
Hefner did not earn the win, but put together a solid eight-inning, one-run, five-hit, seven-strikeout performance in just his eighth career start.
