Mets Vs. Dodgers Final Score: New York Loses Error-Filled Series Finale, 8-3

The New York Mets lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-3, in an error-filled series finale at Dodger Stadium on Sunday night. The two teams combined for five errors. The Mets committed three on their way to blowing a 3-1 lead beginning in the fifth inning.

Dillon Gee (5-7) gave up four runs while on the mound, but only two earned. Juan Uribe scored on an error by Justin Turner at first base to make the score 3-2, Mets. A.J. Ellis tied the game on the next at-bat with a sac fly to score Tony Gwynn. The Dodgers, riding a seven-game losing streak into the game, took their first lead in 66 innings on a James Loney ground out to second, scoring Juan Rivera.

Gee gave up five hits and two walks, and struck out four before leaving the mound after six innings.

Up 4-3 in the seventh inning, the Dodgers added two more runs on what should have been a 1-2-3 inning-ending double play. With the bases loaded, Rivera grounded to Miguel Batista, who threw to Mike Nickeas to try to force the out at home plate. Nickeas was credited with a catching error, as Ellis and Dee Gordon scored, and Bobby Abreu advanced to third.

The Dodger took an 8-3 lead on their next two at-bats. Adam Kennedy scored Abreu on a sac fly, and Rivera scored off a Loney double.

Not that the Dodgers didn't give away runs themselves. After taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning off a Scott Hairston single, the Mets built a 3-1 lead off consecutive errors by the Dodgers in the third. David Wright grounded to second, forcing Tejada out. Gordon missed the throw for the double play, however, scoring Gee and advancing Wright to second. Gordon committed another throwing error on the next at-bat trying to throw Hairston out at first, scoring Wright.

Clayton Kershaw (6-4) got the win after giving up three runs, one earned, in seven innings. He gave up five hits and three walks while striking out nine.
