If someone had to guess before the season started which metro area baseball team would be undefeated after three games, they probably wouldn't have said the New York Mets.
They would've been wrong.
The Mets stunned everyone including most of their own fans with a three game sweep of the Atlanta Braves. New York got timely hitting and some serious power from Lucas Duda to propel them to a nice start.
Now, the Mets play host to the Washington Nationals who took two of three from the hapless Chicago Cubs.
Mike Pelfrey will get his first start of the season tonight. Pelfrey has drawn the ire of many New York fans over the past few years and for good reason. The hulking 28-year-old had an incredible first half of the 2010 season, but since then has been a disaster. Pelfrey posted a 4.74 ERA last year in 34 starts for the Amazin's.
Edwin Jackson will make his first appearance as a member of the Nationals after pitching for the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals last season. Jackson pitched well in 2011, to the tune of a 3.79 ERA.
