Mets-Rockies Score: New York Beats Colorado 6-5 in Extra Innings

Sunday's game at Colorado Field looked good for the New York Mets, who took a 4-0 lead into the eighth inning against the Rockies, but a grand slam by Todd Helton tied the score and turned the game into a scrap that wasn't over until the 11th. In the end, the Mets were victorious, beating the Rockies 6-5.

The Mets took the lead early, going up 3-0 on the first on a 2 RBI double by David Wright and a single by Scott Hairson that scored Wright. Josh Thole added a solo home run in the fifth, making it 4-0. That lasted until the eigth, when Tim Byrdak took the mound from Jon Rauch and gave up a grand slam to pinch-hitting Todd Helton.

The Mets went up 5-4 in the 10th inning on an RBI double by Kirk Nieuwenhuis, but Colorado answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run by Carlos Gonzales. Ike Davis put the Mets on top again in the 11th inning, picking up an RBI on a single to left center. That would prove to be enough for the Mets, as Ramon Ramirez took the hill in the bottom of the 11th and put down the Rockies 1-2-3.

With Sunday's win the Mets improve to 13-9 and take the series from the Rockies, two games to one. They next travel to Houston, facing the Astros in a three game series.
