Mets-Rockies Score: New York Beats Colorado 6-5 in Extra Innings

Sunday's game at Colorado Field looked good for the New York Mets, who took a 4-0 lead into the eighth inning against the Rockies, but a grand slam by Todd Helton tied the score and turned the game into a scrap that wasn't over until the 11th. In the end, the Mets were victorious, beating the Rockies 6-5.

The Mets took the lead early, going up 3-0 on the first on a 2 RBI double by David Wright and a single by Scott Hairson that scored Wright. Josh Thole added a solo home run in the fifth, making it 4-0. That lasted until the eigth, when Tim Byrdak took the mound from Jon Rauch and gave up a grand slam to pinch-hitting Todd Helton.

The Mets went up 5-4 in the 10th inning on an RBI double by Kirk Nieuwenhuis, but Colorado answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run by Carlos Gonzales. Ike Davis put the Mets on top again in the 11th inning, picking up an RBI on a single to left center. That would prove to be enough for the Mets, as Ramon Ramirez took the hill in the bottom of the 11th and put down the Rockies 1-2-3.

With Sunday's win the Mets improve to 13-9 and take the series from the Rockies, two games to one. They next travel to Houston, facing the Astros in a three game series.

Mets (12-9) At Rockies (10-10) Preview: Game Time, TV Schedule, Probable Pitchers

The New York Mets can win its second consecutive series if they beat the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon. Frank Francisco shut down a potential Rockies rally in the bottom of the ninth inning to capture a save in the 7-5 victory on Saturday.

Johan Santana (0-2, 3.00 ERA) is fresh off one of his strongest starts this season, striking out 11 San Francisco Giants while allowing just one run in six-plus innings on the mound. However, Santana took a no-decision in the game, as the Mets didn't score the go-ahead run until the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Rockies start the major leagues oldest pitcher, 49-year-old Jamie Moyer (1-2, 2.28 ERA). Moyer entered spring training as a long shot to make the rotation, but he proved effective during Cactus League play and secured the fifth spot. He has proven to be the team's most reliable starter, holding the rotation's lowest ERA. He has allowed just three runs over his last two starts (13 innings in total).

Game time: 3:10 p.m. ET

Mets-Rockies Score: Mets Rebound Against Rockies, Win 7-5

The New York Mets rebounded from a game where the Colorado Rockies pummeled them for 18 runs, beating the Rockies 7-5.

Colorado struck first, picking up a run in the bottom of the first inning when Troy Tulowitzki grounded into a fielder's choice with Marco Scutaro at third. The Mets answered right back in the top of the second, with David Wright reaching on an infield single and Lucas Duda hitting a two run home run. The Mets added another in the third on a David Wright double.

Following their runs in the first, Colorado was hitless until the fourth inning, when Carlos Gonzales started things off with a bunt single. Gonzales advanced to third on a singly by Tulowitzki. Todd Helton hit a double, sending Gonzales home and Tulowitzki to third. Michael Cuddyer kept things going with a single, knocking in another run, and Guillermo Moscoso added one more with another RBI single. The score stood at 4-3 at the end of the fourth.

The Mets again answered immediately, getting a pair of runs on two RBI singles by Wright and Duda, taking the lead, 6-4. A passed ball in the ninth would give them one more run, leaving things at 7-4 when Frank Francisco took the mount in the ninth.

Francisco struck out Cuddyer looking, got Wilin Rosario on a ground ball, and got pinch hitter Jason Giambi on a fly to center, sealing the win for the Mets.

Mets-Rockies Score: Colorado Overcomes Scott Hairston Cycle To Down Mets, 18-9

The New York Mets entered Friday night's series opener with the Colorado Rockies pitching as well as they had all season. But the Mets can't feel so happy about their staff after allowing 11 runs in the fifth inning of an 18-9 defeat in Colorado Friday night.

Scott Hairston batted for the cycle for the Mets while adding 4 RBI, but they could not overcome Colorado's offensive onslaught.

Carlos Gonzalez had six RBI for the Rockies, Ramon Hernandez drilled his sixth career grand slam, and Troy Tulowitzki and Dexter Fowler also homered for the Rockies, who managed 19 hits while establishing a season high in runs scored. New York certainly didn't help its own cause with six errors, and reliever Manny Acosta allowed seven earned runs in one-third of an inning to draw the loss.

Matt Reynolds earned the win for Colorado with an inning of shutout work.
