Mets 1, Giants 6, Game 1: New York Drops 1st Game Of Monday Doubleheader

The first game of Monday's doubleheader between the San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets at Citi Field is in the books. The Giants were able to take advantage of five good innings by starter Tim Lincecum and pick up a 6-1 win against the punchless Mets. New York will now need to win the nightcap in order to salvage a split in the four-game series.

The Giants got on the board right away in the top of the first inning, as Pablo Sandoval hit an RBI single and was thrown out at second base. Buster Posey followed that up with a two-out solo home run to left field.

The Mets were able to cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning, when Mike Baxter doubled home Ruben Tejada. That would be the last run the Mets would bring across in the game, however, despite having opportunities with runners in scoring position and less than two outs later in the game.

Nate Schierholtz hit a three-run homer to left field in the top of the third and finished the game just a double short of hitting for the cycle. The last San Francisco run came in the top of the fourth, when Brandon Crawford doubled home Emmanuel Burriss.

Mets starter Miguel Batista went just 3.2 innings, giving up six runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks, striking out just two. Lincecum managed his first win of the year, going five innings of one-run ball, while giving up four hits and five walks, with eight strikeouts.
