David Wright Trade Rumors: Should He Stay Or Should He Go?

Stay connected for news and updates

With Jose Reyes in Miami with the Marlins and the New York Mets remaining in murky financial waters, could star third baseman David Wright be headed out of town?

A published report indicates that the Mets are “stepping up their attepts” to find a taker for Wright and his $15 million per year annual salary.

New York Baseball Digest says the Mets could be willing to put Wright in a deal with the Colorado Rockies that would net them second baseman Eric Young Jr. and other considerations.

Howard Megdal of Capital New York makes the case that the Mets should not trade Wright by trying to argue that Wright is “shaping up to be one of the greatest third basemen ever.”

I’m not sure I buy Megdal’s assertion that Wright is en route to a historic career. I am, however, pretty sure I agree with him that trading Wright is not the answer to the Mets problems.
