The New York Knicks officially released a statement regarding the health of Amar'e Stoudemire Tuesday, and as expected the Knicks will be without the star forward for Game 3 (Thursday) and its doubtful he will play able to play in Game 4 (Sunday). Both games are in New York with the latter possibly being an elimination game for the Knicks, who has already dropped the first two contests to the Miami Heat of the best-of-seven series.
Stoudemire's status, which will be reassessed after Game 4, for the rest of the series was put in serious doubt when he hurt his left hand punching a fire extinguisher in frustration after New York's 104-94 loss to the Miami Heat in Game 2. The incident lead to a small muscle in his hand needing to be repaired by a hand specialist.
