Amar'e Stoudemire injury: Knicks forward gets second opinion on knee

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

Knicks forward Amar'e Stoudemire is still hoping for better news on his injured knee.

New York Knicks big man Amar'e Stoudemire will be looking for a second opinion on his injured knee, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News. The forward had initially been diagnosed with a ruptured popliteal cyst in his knee after experiencing soreness. The current prognosis will keep Stoudemire out of action from two to three weeks at the start of the Knicks' regular season schedule. Luckily for Stoudemire, the injury does not require surgery at this time.

The 6'11 Stoudemire is entering his 11th season in the NBA and his third in New York after joining the team via free agency in 2010. He averaged 17.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game in 47 games in 2011-12.

The Knicks are set to begin their regular season on Thursday, Nov. 1. The year opens the with an intra-city showdown against the Brooklyn Nets at the newly opened Barclays Center.
