Tyson Chandler injury: Knicks center will get MRI on Thursday

Rich Barnes-US PRESSWIRE

New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler will get an MRI Thursday on the knee he injured in the team's final preseason game. How concerning is his injury?

New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler hurt his knee in Wednesday's preseason finale against the Brooklyn Nets in a collision with Gerald Wallace. He is scheduled to have an MRI on Thursday. However, he did not sound concerned in an interview with CBS New York:

"I just feel like I have a sprain or something like that," said Chandler. "I'm sure I'll stay off it the next couple of days and then pick up work with my teammates leading into the first game of the season."

While Chandler left the game under his own power, he did leave the Barclays Center with crutches. The Knicks aren't going to risk further injury to last year's Defensive Player of the Year. Knicks guard Carmelo Anthony doesn't think that the injury is serious himself:

"Probably a real bad bruise, I don't know how they're going to call it. Good thing is now preseason is over with, we got a week before the real thing starts, so hopefully he gets himself back ready."

The Knicks will already be without forward Amare Stoudemire for the team's season opener against the Nets on Nov. 1 because of a cyst behind his left knee. The game will be nationally televised and will be the first professional sports regular-season game to be held in Brooklyn in more than 50 years.
