NBA Free Agency 2011, Knicks: Bonzi Wells, Javaris Crittenton Work Out For New York

Bonzi Wells? Javaris Crittenton? What are the New York Knicks thinking? According to various reports, including one by SB Nation's Ridiculous Upside, these two troubled NBA retreads worked out for the team last week.

What I want to know is, why?

Wells is 34-year-old 6-foot-5 swingman who and had a decent NBA career from 1998-2008, averaging 12.1 points per game, when he wasn't clashing with coaches, officials, teammates and management of any of the teams he played on.

The New York Post reported that Wells may have done enough to earn an invitation to training camp.

Crittenton, 23, is a 6-foot-5 guard who has a 5.3 points per game average in two seasons. He did not play in the NBA last season, though he was in training camp with the Charlotte Bobcats.

Crittenton was suspended for the remainder of the season by NBA commissioner David Stern in January of 2010 following an incident in which he and teammate Gilbert Arena drew guns on each other while they were teammates with the Washington Wizards.

Maybe the Knicks are looking for help at shooting guard. It seems, though, like bringing in these guys is simply asking for trouble.
