Knicks 120, Grizzlies 99: Record Three-Point Barrage Ends Three-Game Losing Streak

New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Knicks made a franchise-best 20 three-pointers -- including nine from Toney Douglas -- to get a badly needed victory, 120-99, against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Douglas matched a Knicks single-game record by shooting 9-of-12 from beyond the arc, finishing with 29 points and helping them snap a three-game slide. They had most recently been swept in a home-and-home set with Indiana.

"I had rhythm, and plus, my teammates, they created opportunities for me to have open jump shots," Douglas said. "Once you're in the zone, you feel like you can't miss."

Carmelo Anthony added 28 points for New York.

Mike Conley had 16 points and six assists to lead Memphis, which has dropped three of four.

"I feel we played pretty good help defense inside, everybody was rotating," said Grizzlies center Marc Gasol. "But I think the third and fourth effort wasn't there. They're a good shooting team, but they shot the lights out tonight."

It was a 29-29 game after a close first quarter, but Douglas came alive during the second to help New York start to take control. He played all 12 minutes and made 5-of-6 three-point tries.

Douglas drained one with about three minutes left in the quarter, giving the Knicks a 54-46 advantage, then hit his fifth with 56.9 seconds to play. That make put New York up by eight, and it held a 59-51 lead at the break.

Chauncey Billups was the Knicks' leading scorer during the third quarter, when he netted 12 of his 18 points. Douglas also stayed hot, making three more long-distance shots.

Two of them came in the final 34.3 seconds, after teammate Shawne Williams drained a three-pointer with 59.5 ticks left. The rapid-fire shots had New York up 92-74 moving to the fourth.

New York's lead never dipped into single digits in the final quarter, during which Douglas made his final three. It came with only 17.8 seconds left, sealing the Knicks' win and putting his name into the club's record book.

Amare Stoudemire had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Knicks, who finished with a 20-of-36 mark from three-point range...Darrell Arthur scored 15 points for Memphis, while Zach Randolph and Tony Allen both scored 14.

New York Knicks vs. Memphis Grizzlies: Knicks Look To Erase Three Game Skid, While Wearing Green

It's St. Patrick's Day, and you know what that means: the Knicks will be wearing green! And in green, the Knicks will be taking on the Memphis Grizzlies at the Garden in what amounts to as close as a must-win game as you can have around Paddy's Day in the NBA. The Knicks have dropped three in a row, all three in different yet hideous fashion. A blowout to the Dallas Mavericks was followed by a two game sweep at the hands of the Indiana Pacers. Tyler Hansbrough found his inner March Madness, droppping career highs in both games. The Knicks simply didn't defend in either of the three games.

Their last victory came against these same Grizzlies, thanks to Carmelo Anthony's buzzer-beating winner. The Knicks led comfortably in that game, but allowed Memphis to erase a 14-point fourth quarter deficit to momentarily tie the game. When you look at things that way, you realize the Knicks are one 'Melo shot away from being on a four game losing streak. Not exactly what fans hoped for when Anthony was brought here.

The Knicks better try and defend at least a little bit better than they have in the past three games if they have plans on beating Memphis. They had toruble controlling Zach Randolph last time out, and with the way the Knicks have been playing in their past three, no improvement on the defensive front would prove disastrous against Z-Bo. The Knicks have three winnable games coming up starting with tonight, and they had better win them all if they want to hold on to the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference.
