Report: Los Angeles Lakers Join Carmelo Anthony Chase

Could there be a bi-coastal battle brewing for the services of Denver Nuggets All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony? ESPN is reporting that the Los Angeles Lakers have joined the bidding for Anthony’s services.

ESPN reports that the Lakers have offered the Nuggets a package built around center Andrew Bynum. Bynum, 23, is averaging 11.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this season. He averaged 15 points and 8.3 rebounds per game a season ago.

ESPN also added that a straight-up Anthony-for-Bynum trade would work financially under the NBA salary cap.

The interest in Anthony makes it seem obvious that the Lakers, currently fourth overall in the Western Conference, feel like they need to shake up the supporting cast around Kobe Bryant.

The Knicks have reportedly been working on a three-way trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Nuggets that would involved Wilson Chandler, the expiring contract of Eddy Curry and other players.

So, it appears the ‘MeloDrama’ just got very, very interesting once again.
