Mikhail Prokhorov: No Deal For Carmelo Anthony

Stay connected for news and updates

After months of negotiating and posturing from both the New Jersey Nets and Denver Nuggets, Carmelo Anthony will not be heading to Newark (or Brooklyn).  Owner Mikhail Prokhorov met with the media on Wednesday and announced that he has told GM Billy King to walk away from the negotiations to bring Anthony to the Nets.

"There comes a time when the price is simply too expensive," the billionaire owner told a throng of reporters.

"I'm instructing our team to walk away from the deal."

On several occasions, Prokhorov called the trade talks "too long and too expensive".

He told the media that he had not told the Nuggets about his decision to end negotiations and jokingly that King hadn't even been informed.

"(Denver) had a very good proposal.  They probably did their best to protect their interests."

Prokhorov stressed this decision was final and that a scheduled meeting with Anthony on Thursday had been canceled.

King said he informed the Nuggets they were walking away from the table but had yet to get a response.
