New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes suffered a rib injury during a team scrimmage on Saturday night, which head coach Rex Ryan believes to be a possible broken rib.
New York Post writer Brian Costello reports that Ryan described Holmes' rib as "sticking out," a clear indicator of a serious injury.
Rex on Santonio: "I don't know if Santonio broke a rib or not, but the fact that it was sticking out was probably an indicator. "

Ryan added that Holmes was injured on a clean hit, and that there is currently no timetable regarding his return to the field.
If Holmes misses an extended period of time, the Jets will turn to Stephen Hill, Chaz Schilens and Jeremy Kerley to fill his spot. New York opens the preseason on Friday, August 10, against the Cincinnati Bengals.
