New York Jets 2012 OTAs: Rex Ryan Says 'I Want To Be Special'

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan shouldered much of the blame for the team’s 8-8 finish in 2011, the first time in his three years as head coach that the team had not made the playoffs.

Ryan said at the end of the season that he did not have a good handle on the team’s fractured locker room and that he had gotten away from being the hands-on defensive-oriented coach he likes to be. At the time he promised to make changes.

Following Thursday’s Jets OTA Ryan talked about the upcoming season, and how hard it was to watch the Metlife Stadium co-tenant New York Giants win the Super Bowl last season.

“I’m putting a lot of pressure on myself because of what I expect from this team, what our players expect, what this organization expects, what our fans expect. We want to win, all of us,” Ryan said. “Driving around our stadium, and see the Giants playing in there, (and) us not, that stings … Just like the Giants were last year, I want to be special.”
