Why Tim Tebow To The Jets Makes Sense

As Tim Tebow 's name was initially tossed around the rumor mill, it seemed unlikely that the New York Jets would enter the sweepstakes. After all they just signed Mark Sanchez to a three-year contract extension. While the addition of Tim Tebow to the New York Jets may seem like a terrible acquisition at the outset, upon further inspection, it makes sense.

In the off-season, one of the major criticisms of Sanchez was that he was babied and coddled by head coach Rex Ryan. In his first few seasons, Sanchez has had nobody to compete with him for the starting job besides 41-year old Mark Brunell. Would Tebow be able to replace Sanchez as the starter? I doubt it. But he could stand to grow from Tebow's presence and perhaps borrow some of his intensity.

The Jets also need a cheap insurance plan in case Sanchez goes down and as conventional as Drew Stanton may be he's a pedestrian backup and a third stringer at best.

On the field, Tebow would be an asset in short yardage and goal line situations. Tony Sparano brought the Wildcat to the NFL after he was he was head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2008. After utilizing Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams in the shotgun, West Virginia quarterback Pat White was drafted as a potential Wildcat specialist. Unfortunately, White was too fragile and was injured during the final regular season game of the 2009 season. Tebow is a combination of Ronnie Brown's strength and Pat White's throwing ability and would could be useful in supplementing the Jets paltry running game behind their shaky offensive line.

Hopefully, he and Laron Landry have enough restraint to stay away from the bicep curl rack.
