Jets Free Agency 2012: Chad Henne Could Join Mark Sanchez

The New York Jets could add a quarterback when the doors swing open on NFL free agency March 13. According to Fox Sports, the Jets could take a run at Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne.

Tony Sparano, the Jets’ new offensive coordinator, knows Henne from his time as the Dolphins' head coach (2008- 2011). Familiarity is just one possible advantage for the Jets, though, as competition for Mark Sanchez also makes Henne an attractive, albeit expensive, backup option.

There are those who feel Sanchez would benefit greatly from a little competition. Henne is considered by many to be the perfect candidate for just such a task, one mediocre quarterback pushing another one.

Of course, bringing in a so-called "1A" will not be cheap. Henne is expected to warrant $5 million per season. Such is the price of a thin free agent market for quarterbacks, one in which Henne is the widely perceived third-best option among available players at the position.

Meanwhile, the Peyton Manning speculation will continue as some wonder whether or not the Jets are desperate enough to take a risk on the veteran.
