Playing a lineup almost completely devoid of starters or regular players, the New York Jets lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-14, Thursday night at MetLife Stadium in their preseason finale.
Jets coach Rex Ryan used the game to evaluate players trying to earn the final available spots on the 53-man roster. NFL teams have to reach the 53-man limit on Saturday.
“This was a game that was really about the individual, not necessarily the team and obviously I hate losing but it really is an individual thing. There are a couple spots open, practice squad spots open so that’s what this camp was about. We had a couple guys step up that hadn’t had any snaps,” Ryan said. “We are going to take a long, long look at these guys.”
The Jets open the regular season Sunday, Sept. 11 when they host the Dallas Cowboys in the Sunday night game beginning at 8:20 p.m. ET.
