Jerricho Cotchery On Trading Block?

The NFL Network reported today that the New York Jets have put veteran wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery on the trading block, in an effort to clear more space to pursue other free agents.

This is surprising news considering it remains up in the air whether Plaxico Burress is ready to be a full time number two receiver or not. Behind Santonio Holmes and Burress on the depth chart, if you take away Cotchery is Patrick Turner and rookie fifth round pick Jeremy Kerley. How could the Jets feel comfortable with that situation?

Among the rumored players the Jets could be targeting are former San Diego Chargers wide receiver Macolm Floyd and outside linebackers Matt Roth, Manny Lawson, or Tully Banta-Cain. It would make sense for the Jets to add another linebacker, but be perplexing if they replaced Cotchery with Floyd, considering Floyd could end up costing more. There is a chance the organization isn't convinced Cotchery is healthy as he is coming off back surgery this past off-season.

New York Jets Training Camp, Day 2: Antonio Cromartie Will Return

The New York Jets lost out in their bid to bring in free-agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. Thus, the Jets turned to the cornerback Asomugha would have replaced, Antonio Croamrtie, and are bringing Cromartie back for his second season in New York.

"They say Cro is back, Cro is back all GangGreen fans say is Cro…lol," Cromartie wrote on his Twitter page. "I’m on my FLT headed home glad 2 b a JET…let’s go win a Superbowl."

Cromartie reportedly signed a four-year contract worth $32 million to once again team with Darrell Revis to give the Jets a formidable set of cornerbacks.

The Jets could even use Cromartie as a kickoff returner, something he did in San Diego before coming to the Jets. He did that in a limited capacity for New York last season. The Jets lose return specialist Brad Smith to San Diego as a free agent.

The Jets will hold their first official training camp practice this afternoon.
